Bret D. Patterson

MA, P-LPC

Clinical Therapist

Bret is a provisionally licensed professional counselor. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Anthropology from the University of North Texas and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University. Before coming to Psycamore, Bret worked in community-based mental health at Region 8 where he was lead therapist and family therapist for the NAVIGATE program, coordinating care and services for teens and young adults newly diagnosed with schizophrenia. Bret practices with an integrative, holistic approach to patient care that utilizes CBT, Family Systems Theory, and solutions-focused therapy. His preferred areas of focus are grief, depression, anxiety, and trauma.

Before entering the mental health field, Bret worked as a paramedic for 25 years in Mississippi and Texas, both in the prehospital setting and in a large pediatric ER. While in Texas, he also worked as a clinical education specialist, paramedic instructor, and trained in Critical Incident Stress Management.

Bret believes that the knowledge and experience he gained in his previous career gives him a unique perspective as a mental health provider.

Bret enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, as well as writing and playing music with lifelong friends. He also enjoys being outdoors, whether its hunting and fishing, or riding motorcycles. Bret also engages in various activities for self-care and relaxation, including photography, drawing, and writing fiction, to name just a few.
